Welded steel pipes can be divided into straight seam welded pipes and spiral welded pipes according to the weld forming process.
1. Longitudinal Welded Pipe
Features: The weld seam is a straight line parallel to the pipe axis.
Manufacturing Process: Steel plates or strips are gradually bent into a round tube shape through multiple forming rollers and then welded.
Advantages: Relatively simple process and low production cost.
Sub-Types:
· ERW: High-Frequency Electric Resistance Welding - the most common type of longitudinally welded pipe, described in detail below.
· LSAW: Submerged Arc Welding - typically used for large-diameter, thick-walled pipe.
2. Spiral Welded Pipe
Features: The weld seam is spirally wound around the steel pipe body.
Manufacturing Process: Strip steel is continuously rolled and welded at a specific spiral angle (forming angle). Advantages:
Good pressure bearing capacity: The weld seam avoids the direction of principal stress, ensuring more uniform pressure distribution across the pipe body.
Flexible Specifications: Using the same strip width, pipes of varying diameters can be produced by adjusting the spiral angle.
Large Diameter: Very large diameter pipes can be produced.
Main Process: Submerged arc welding is typically used.
